From January 1, 2026, new changes to the Labor Code, approved by the National Council of the Slovak Republic at the end of December, came into effect.Â
The basic entitlement to paid leave remains a maximum of 7 days per year for all employees. What is new is that for a single parent this scope is extended to 14 days of paid leave per year to accompany a child under 15 years of age to healthcare facilities and counseling and prevention facilities.Â
An employee is entitled to paid time off when accompanying a child or family member not only to a healthcare facility, but also to counseling and prevention facilities, such as a psychologist or speech therapist.
The employer shall provide paid leave to one family member for the necessary time, up to seven days per calendar year, if it was not possible to provide accompaniment outside of working hours. An additional 7 days shall be added to a single parent accompanying a child under 15 years of age.
