[Poland] Waiver of ZUS contributions for companies affected by the flood

ZUS helps entrepreneurs affected by the flood. The affected companies can apply for postponement of the payment of contributions, payment in instalments or cancellation.

ZUS – relief in paying contributions

Entrepreneurs affected by the flood can take advantage of assistance consisting of deferring the deadline for payment of contributions, dividing the dues into instalments or cancellation of payment of contributions. Reliefs apply to contributions for people paying contributions for their own insurance.

In order to benefit from the cancellation of contributions, the injured entrepreneurs should demonstrate that they are unable to pay contributions, and the condition for receiving the assistance is to apply at a ZUS office. ZUS has already made specially designated customer service points available for this purpose and simplified the procedures for considering applications so that there is no need to submit documents showing the economic and financial situation of the entrepreneur from the last 3 years.

Applications from flood victims are to be treated as a priority, and during the period from 18 September to 4 October 2024, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., entrepreneurs can obtain the necessary information on contribution relief by calling special telephone numbers provided by ZUS: 33 825 31 34 and 76 876 45 76.

In addition, it should be remembered that if an entrepreneur does not hire employees, he or she may also suspend his or her business activity, and for the period of suspension, the obligation to pay contributions and submit declarations to ZUS is also suspended.

Moreover, the Minister of Finance, during the meeting of the crisis team in Wrocław, emphasized that entrepreneurs from flood-affected areas can pay ZUS contributions for the period from 1 August  to 31December 2024, 15 by September 2025, provided that they submit a declaration that they have been affected by the flood. Importantly, paying contributions at a later date will not be subject to interest.

MRPiPS – 10 days of absence from work for flood victims

Due to the difficult situation of people affected by the flood, the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy (MRPiPS) is introducing the right for employees from flood-affected areas to a 10-day absence from work. Employees are to retain the right to a part of their salary for this time, calculated from the minimum wage.

In addition, the Ministry of Labour is preparing a regulation that will enable the payment of subsidies to employers whose plants were destroyed in the flood. Loans will also be available for entrepreneurs who were forced to limit their activities by the flood.
