[Czech Republic] COVID-19 – employment support and nursing allowance changes


It is approximately a month since economic life has significantly slowed down due to the new Coronavirus threat. Government measures yield unfortunate consequences to companies and so the government tries to help them handle this difficult situation. One of the measures is the project called Antivirus.

The purpose of this project is to compensate employers’ payroll costs resulting from their obligation to pay wage compensations for employees’ obstacles to work. The project works in two regimes:

  1. Forced business restrictionIn the event of ordered quarantine, the employee receives a wage compensation in the amount of 60% of the reduced average earnings.In the event of closure of business due to the government order the employee receives a wage compensation of 100% of the average earnings.Contribution to the employers amounting to 80 % of the payroll costs paid (gross salary, social insurance and health insurance) up to the amount of 39.000 CZK per employee.
  2. Connected economic difficultiesDepending on the type of obstacle the employee receives a wage compensation in the amount of 60-100% of the average earnings.Contribution to the employers amounting to 60 % of the payroll costs paid (gross salary, social insurance, health insurance) up to the amount of 29.000 CZK.To receive any contribution, the employer has to strictly follow the Labour Code. Contributions can’t be provided for employees who are in a notice period and these employees can’t be given a notice. The employer has to pay the wage compensation including the SI and HI. Submitting applications have been possible since April 6th 2020.

Nursing allowance changes

Due to the extraordinary situations, rules for nursing allowances change. The entitlement to the nursing the allowance will last for the whole time of school facility closure. The age limit of a child increased from 10 to 13 years. The last day an employee can receive the allowance for is the day before the child’s 13th birthday.

Also, new forms for nursing allowance were created; it is essential to fill them correctly. If it’s possible, it is recommended that the employee agrees with the employer how to fill out the form so that most of the mistakes can be eliminated.

The conditions for standard nursing allowance (thus due to the child’s illness), remain unchanged. Only conditions for nursing allowance due to school closure change.
